I've joined a new team
Feeling like an outsider is what new is, not a bad sign. Spend your free questions early and build belonging one chai at a time.
New team, and suddenly you're the person who doesn't know where anything is: the short forms, the running jokes, who actually decides things. Everyone else moves on rails you can't see yet. That outsider feeling isn't a sign you chose wrong - it's just what new is.
What your mind is doing: reading short replies as coldness, comparing your fumbling with their fluency, and rehearsing ways to look like you already know.
What your body is doing: tired earlier than usual - a full day of social alertness burns real fuel. Maybe a small knot before standups and intro calls.
Why this happens: belonging isn't a decision anyone makes about you; it's an accumulation, roughly ninety days of small repeated contact. You're comparing your chapter one with everyone else's chapter twenty.

Spend your 'new person' questions now
Ask the basic ones this month: 'Who owns this? Why is it done this way?' Right now every question is free; in three months the same question costs pride.

Who is one person on this team you could ask for fifteen minutes this week - and what would you ask them?
Longer term: give it ninety days before you judge the team, or yourself in it. Keep the weekly chai going even after it stops feeling necessary - the relationships you build casually now are what make hard weeks workable later.
A therapist would tell you: you're not behind, you're early. The gap you feel is tenure, not talent, and it closes through contact, not through impressing anyone.
Common mistakes: going quiet to avoid looking new, skipping lunches and intros to 'catch up on real work', judging the team by the loneliness of the early weeks, and importing your old team's ways before learning why this one differs.
When to seek more support: the normal new-job wobble fades as the weeks pass. If it deepens instead - dread most mornings after a couple of months, sleep suffering, 'they don't want me here' hardening into certainty - talking to a professional helps you sort signal from story, sooner if it starts touching your sense of worth.
