Mindful Walking: Meditation in Motion

Cannot sit still to meditate? Good news: you do not have to. Any walk, even down an office corridor, can become practice.

Mindful Walking: Meditation in Motion

For a lot of people, sitting meditation feels like being trapped with their own thoughts. Walking meditation solves that: the body is busy, the scenery changes, and attention has somewhere natural to rest.

The practice is not about walking somewhere. It is about noticing the walking itself, something you have done on autopilot since you were one year old.

Guided exercise

A five-minute mindful walk

Step 1 of 5

Arrive in your feet

~45 sec

For the first ten steps, put all your attention in the soles of your feet. Heel, roll, push-off. Nothing else to do.

Check-in

When could a mindful walk realistically fit into your day?

You do not need a park or a sunset. A corridor, a parking lot, or the walk to a meeting room all count. Five minutes of walking like this is five minutes your mind is not rehearsing or replaying, and that gap is where your nervous system catches its breath.
