I'm mentally exhausted.
That heavy, foggy, done-with-everything feeling is a real state with a real fix, and the fix is not pushing harder.

How intense is this feeling right now?
What's probably happening
Your brain has been doing effortful work for hours: deciding, focusing, switching, holding things in mind. That capacity is real and it is finite. Mental exhaustion is what running low feels like, not a character flaw.
What your mind is doing
Everything feels slower and heavier. Small decisions feel big, reading takes two passes, and irritation sits closer to the surface. A tired brain also gets gloomier, so your outlook right now is not your real outlook.
What your body is doing
Heavy eyes, tight neck, maybe a dull headache. You might feel wired and tired at once: too drained to work, too keyed up to rest.
Why this happens
Most of us refill attention with things that spend it: scrolling, more screens, more input. The brain refuels on genuinely different activity, especially anything slow, physical, or offline. A real break is a skill, and it takes two minutes to start.
Guided exercise
The next 2 minutes
Step 1 of 3
Stand up and step away from every screen
~30 secPhysically leave the spot where you were working. A different room or a window counts. Phone stays behind.
What helps today
Take one real break every 60 to 90 minutes: screen-free, even three minutes. Downgrade this afternoon on purpose by picking the two things that matter and doing them slowly; a tired brain does less, better. And set a finish line for today, a time when work actually ends.
What helps long-term
Protect your sleep floor, the minimum hours below which tomorrow is pre-ruined. Build a shutdown ritual: same small routine at the end of each workday, so your brain learns when off means off. And put one genuinely restorative thing in every week, something physical or outdoors that has nothing to do with productivity.

Therapist tip
Tiredness is information, not weakness. The people who last in demanding jobs are not the ones who never get tired; they are the ones who treat rest as part of the work instead of a reward for finishing it.
Common mistakes
- 'Resting' by scrolling, which spends attention instead of refilling it.
- Pushing through on caffeine and adrenaline, then wondering why sleep will not come.
- Saving all recovery for the weekend; two days cannot repay five days of overdraft.
When to seek more support
If a full night's sleep and a quiet weekend no longer recharge you, if the exhaustion has lasted several weeks, or if it comes with a flat, checked-out feeling about things you used to care about, do not push through alone: talk to your therapist, or start with Milo in the app.
